Changing to a new number can be a big deal, so we've made it easy to bring any New Zealand mobile phone number with you when you join 2degrees. We’ll even give you a $10 credit for doing it (offer valid untill March 31st, 2010). It doesn’t matter whether you are a pre-pay customer or you get a bill, your number is your number and you can take it wherever you like. It doesn't take long to change your number, usually less than one business day. There are a few things that you need to know and have done before you can start the process. Please read the next bit carefully as it all gets a bit tricky if you don't give us exactly the right information when you fill in the form.
How to transfer your number. To get started, you need to register for 'Your 2degrees'. Once you're logged in, choose 'Bring your number' and complete the on-screen form. You'll be asked to read and accept the Terms and Conditions and then you're done. We'll text you as soon as the transfer is complete. If a lot of people are trying to bring their numbers all at the same time there may be a bit of a delay, but we'll keep you informed as you go. If you get a bill you might need to go back to your old mobile company once you have transferred your number and check that they've closed your account properly. 2degrees legally can't do that bit for you. How do I find my ESN number? All Telecom handsets have a unique ESN number. You'll find it either behind or alongside the battery. Just slip the back off your mobile and it should be right there. If it's not, call us and we'll help you to find it. Your handset's ESN number is an 11 digit number. If, when you take the back off your phone and you find you've only got an 8 character code then you'll need to contact Telecom and ask them for the corresponding 11 digit code. How do I find my SIM card number? The SIM card number that we need to know in order to move your number is physically printed on your existing Vodafone (or XT) SIM card. It has anything between 12 and 18 digits in it. If you are moving a number from Vodafone you only need to give us 12 digits. If your Vodafone SIM card only has 12 digits on it then you're sweet. But if you've got 16 digits printed on your Vodafone SIM then you should only give us the last 12 digits (that means ignoring the first 4 digits which should be 6401). If you are moving your number from Telecom XT, then you should give us all 17 digits. It's crucial that you type this number into the form correctly as we can't move your number without it. You'll most likely find your SIM card hiding under your battery. Just to be clear, we do not need to know your 2degrees SIM number - we already know that.
