Shared Data

If you have your phone on a Pay Monthly Plan and have a tablet or modem that uses a 2degrees SIM then there’s no need to buy separate Data Packs for each of your devices, you can simply share the data from your Plan. And if you need a little bit more data then simply add a Data Pack to your Plan and you can use that across 5 devices with a 2degrees SIM.

Share with family and friends

You can share your Plan data with friends and family too as long as their devices have a 2degrees SIM. And you don’t need to be nearby, as long as you are both in NZ it will work just fine. Share your data with other people in exactly the same way as you share across your devices.

To START sharing
Send a text to 747 from the SIM that your Plan is on. Include the number of the device you want to share with. Like this:‘SHARE 0220202020'

To STOP sharing
Send a text to 747 from the SIM that your Plan is on. Include the number of the device you want to stop sharing with. Like this: ‘STOP 0220202020'

If you’re sharing someone else's data, just send ‘Stop' to 747.


Other things you need to know

  • Data can be shared with up to five devices that use a 2degrees SIM. It doesn’t matter whether they are your devices or those of friends and family.
  • When you activate Shared Data, all data on your Plan – including your Plan Data and any Data Value Packs – will be shared with the devices you choose.
  • Once all your Plan Data and any Data Value Packs have been used, shared devices need to buy a Data Pack to keep using data (even if they are on Prepay).
  • If you need a little bit more data for your different devices then simply add one of our great value Data Packs to your Plan account.

  • What happens to my Carryover minutes if I change my Pay Monthly or Business plan?

    The great news is all of our current plans all have Carryover minutes. That means if you change* to one of our current Pay Monthly or Business plans and currently have Carryover minutes, your Carryover minutes come with you!

    If you’re on one of our old plans , why not check out our current range of fantastic value Pay Monthly and Business* Please note that if you’re on one of our retired plans and moving to another retired plan that doesn’t come with Carryover, your Carryover minutes won’t be transferred.  

    *If you’re on a fixed term, charges may apply to change plans. Don’t worry; we’ll let you know in advance if there will be any charges as a result of a change.

  • I have set up a Spend Control limit on my Plan, how will that affect the renewal of my Family Share recipients?

    You need to ensure that your Spend Control limit is set high enough so that it covers the charge required to auto-renew all your Family Share or Team Share recipients on each Bill Date. If a recipient does not renew on your Bill Date due to your Spend Control limit, you will be notified by text. You will only be charged for successful renewals. Any recipient that does not renew will be notified by text and will go on hold until your next Bill Date. To re-activate the recipient on hold you first need to increase your Spend Control limit. You then need to text STOP UNLIMITED and the recipient 's mobile number to 233, for example STOP UNLIMITED 022XXXXXXX, and then text SHARE UNLIMITED and the recipient 's mobile number to 233, for example SHARE UNLIMITED 022XXXXXXX. The charge for activating a recipient under Family Share or Team Share is $25 per person each month. If your recipient was activated prior to 2 March 2014, then you will be charged $20 per person each month until that recipient is removed.

  • How do I unsubscribe from 2degrees marketing messages?

    If you want to unsubscribe from marketing messages from 2degrees, simply text STOP to 222 or update your personal preferences in Your 2degrees. If you're getting SPAM from companies or individuals, check out our SPAM page for more information.

  • Can I use my locked phone with another SIM card in it overseas?
    No, a locked phone will only work with a 2degrees SIM.
  • Can I move from 2degrees if I have a locked phone?

    Phone locking means that the phone can only be used on the 2degrees network.  If you wish to move to another network using that locked phone you would have to unlock the phone first. A $30 unlocking fee may apply, check out our Phone Locking page for more information.

  • What if I get my locked phone repaired, does it stay locked?
    If you get your locked phone repaired, it will remain locked.
