Fibre Broadband Speeds

We break down our Fibre broadband speeds

You’ve got a need for speed, we get it. That’s why the team here at 2degrees push the limit to bring you the fastest Fibre broadband speeds we can.

We’ve broken our speeds down to show you exactly what you can get, and we’ll walk you through the little things that can slow you down. Cause that’s only fair right?

Our estimated Fibre broadband speeds

To throw some light on our Fibre speeds, we’ve set them out in a handy little table.

We (and the other guys) measure broadband speeds in megabits per second (Mbps). In simple terms, the higher the available Mbps, the faster your broadband can be. The ins and out of how this is calculated is below.

Our speeds

Our download and upload Fibre speeds are the theoretical maximums possible on that particular plan. We refer to speed as being ‘up to xxxMbps’ because there are many factors in your individual home set-up that can impact this, so your actual home broadband speeds can vary.

What can affect broadband speed?

  • Whether you’re plugged in with an ethernet cable or connected wirelessly over WiFi

Connecting your device to your modem by ethernet cable will allow you to access the best speeds available at your location. Modems generally allow higher speeds to be accessed using an ethernet cable. WiFi is great, but there are many factors that can impact your speed including things like distance, walls, solid objects, interference from electronic devices and your individual devices WiFi capabilities.

  • The age and condition of your modem

If you’ve got an older and/or lower spec modem, it may not work as well as some of the newer models. The network capabilities will also differ depending on your hardware.

  • Your internal home wiring and equipment

Depending on how your home has been wired up, there may be factors limiting your speed.

  • The age and condition of your devices (laptops, computers, TV’s, mobiles etc.)

Older models won’t run as fast and smoothly over the internet as newer, high spec ones.

  • Number of people online at the same time

The more people you have using your broadband at once, the slower your speeds may be. This is because the available Mbps are being shared amongst a number of devices.

  • During times of network congestion

For example, during major sporting events, you may notice your speed is impacted or slowed.

Tips to get the most out of your broadband

  • Make sure your modem and devices are high spec, so you’re getting the best out of them. The perfect excuse to upgrade your home!
  • If you’ve got an old modem, you should consider upgrading to a newer model. You won’t hurt its feelings, we promise.
  • If you can get Fibre at your place and haven’t upgraded yet, get on the bandwagon! Fibre gives you a superior broadband performance compared to standard DSL broadband, even when everyone is online at once.
  • Make sure you’ve got enough data. If you’re not on unlimited and use a lot of data, you should consider upgrading, so you can go wild without worrying about data caps.
  • Check that your browser is up to date and if it’s not, upgrade to the newest version. For help, just open your browser and type ‘upgrade browser’ and the internet will show you the way.
  • Squash any bugs by making sure you’ve got anti-virus protection on your devices. If you catch any of these pesky bugs, they can slow your internet down.
  • Certain devices can interfere with your WiFi signal. Things like baby monitors, cordless phones and microwaves, so make sure these are kept well away from your modem.
  • Lastly, we know it sounds cliché but try turning your modem on and off. Sometimes it just needs a bit of a kick-start to get it firing on all cylinders.
