SPCA

Technology is now playing a key role in ensuring the health and well being of thousands of vulnerable animals each year thanks to the collective smarts of the SPCA and its partnership with 2degrees.

Their business needs

Mobility and reliability is of the upmost importance to the SPCA.

“Our inspectors spend most of their day out on the road visiting properties where animals are in distress or need urgent care. Their mobiles are a vital tool for this work – especially when they are going in to very remote areas or dangerous situations. We use our mobiles and broadband in unison with Navman technology which, from a health and safety perspective, ensures our inspectors are supported and can get assistance at any time.”

Solutions

In Auckland, the SPCA switched its mobile and broadband services to 2degrees two years ago and uses the network to not only support its day-to-day operations, but to also provide innovative ways to tap into much needed funding.

What benefits have they seen?

One area where mobility is helping the SPCA make a difference is out in the field.

“It’s sometimes difficult to pinpoint exactly where our inspectors need to go but with the use of our technology run over the 2degrees network, we can guide them to exactly the right location using our tracking technology which cuts down on the time it takes to assist with urgent cases.”

“As a charity, our focus is always on getting the most value we can from every dollar we spend,” says GM Marketing & Fundraising Dominique Leeming. “We really like 2degrees’ philosophy as a company and the fact that it was really open to supporting us with our ambitious technology plans at the same time as keeping our costs low.”

Despite the great work the SPCA does across the country, its operations receive no direct Government funding so its annual public fundraising appeal is vital to its future. And thanks to some innovative initiatives, 2degrees is helping it evolve its campaigns to the cashless society.

“Our annual fundraising appeal is key to being able to continue the good work we do. Increasingly, we have found people don’t carry cash anymore but still come up to us on the street wanting to donate,” says Dominique. “We can now offer mobile EFTPOS donation facilities which means we are able to maximise our fundraising efforts. 2degrees’ network has been instrumental in helping us do this – it would simply not be possible without access to our pool of mobile data.”

In addition, we have also been able to introduce another great street appeal drawcard – our ‘PayWave dogs’ which allow people to donate to the SPCA by tapping their credit card on our dog’s special PayWave-enabled jackets. It’s been a great success and will continue to be a core feature of our fundraising efforts going forward.”

What they love about 2degrees?

Dominique says its partnership with 2degrees is allowing it to do more, for less.

“In our organisation, every cent counts. Not only has 2degrees helped enable our innovative ideas but they have also ensured we get the best value and service for our money. We feel well supported by the 2degrees team - which means we can get on with focusing on what’s most important - helping those special animals in need.”
