Software Upgrades

Software upgrades are important to ensure your phone performs at it's best. Below are the upgrades that we think you should know about.

Android 2.3 upgrade process for LG handsets

LG have released the Android 2.3 update for the LG Optimus One P500, LG Optimus Black P970 and the LG Optimus 2X P990. You will need to use a computer running Microsoft Windows and have at least 50% battery remaining to perform this update. 

  1. Go to LG's Mobile Phone Support site
  2. Select your handset model and the Software Update screen will be displayed.
  3. Select “Windows USB Driver” to download and install.
  4. Select “Software Update”, to download and install.
  5. Plug your phone in and click on the installed “LG Mobile Update” software (should be an Icon on your desktop).
  6. Then just follow the steps on the screen… If you receive a memory error during upgrade click ok and the process will continue as normal.

Please note: If updating either the LG Optimus 2X/P990 or LG Optimus P500 you will need to download the 2degrees connectivity settings after the upgrade as below:

Installing the 2degrees network setting on the LG P990/P500

  1. After upgrading your handset make sure your SIM card is inserted then on your handset browse to the applications menu and select ‘SIM Toolkit/Get Settings.
  2. Two messages should soon arrive in your SMS inbox.
  3. Select install on both sets of settings and restart your phone.

You will now be fully setup to use your handset on the 2degrees network.

IDEOS X5 upgrade to enable WiFi Hotspot

To install and enable the Wi-Fi hotspot capability on your IDEOS X5 firstly ensure you have at least 50% battery remaining then follow the below steps on your handset:

1. Select 'settings/About phone/Online update' your phone will now display the available firmware update

2. Select ‘more info’ then select 'update'

3. Your phone will now download the new software and prompt to either install now or install later

4. Select the ‘install now’ option. Your phone will now reboot and start the upgrade process which will take approximately 5 minutes.

Motorola Defy+ Software update

Motorola have released a minor software update for Defy+. This update contains security fixes by Google. The file size is approximately 14 MB and can be downloaded over a 3G network or WiFi.

Once this software update is available you will be notified via the Android notification.

Update Process:

1. Select Settings/About phone/System updates

2. Update available (13.1MB)

3. Select Download

4. Download using Wi-Fi/Cellular or Wi-Fi only

5. Wait for download to progress

6. Once download has completed you will be prompted to either Install now or Install later

7. Handset will now power off an start the upgrade process

8. You should then get message once phone reboots stating software update successful
